Alliance President and CEO Tobin Richardson Testifies Before Subcommittee on Communications and Technology in Washington, D.C.
In his testimony to the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology in Washington, D.C., Tobin Richardson, Alliance President and CEO, emphasized the critical role of security in the Matter framework. This focus on security is fundamental to the Connectivity Standard Alliance Members' dedication to integrating data privacy and security, which was essential in the development of Matter and in establishing its guiding principles for global standardization. He echoed the Alliance Members’ support for programs like the FCC’s U.S. Cyber Trust Mark program, which offers potential effectiveness for IoT devices when maintained as a voluntary initiative.
On May 8th, the Alliance announced the latest update to Matter, version 1.3 of the specification and SDK. This latest release marks an important step forward, enabling devices that can be more helpful to users in the kitchen and laundry room, enhance entertainment and smart home interaction on screens, and make the smart home more efficient and safer with new energy and water management support.
The Alliance Product Security Working Group announced the release of their IoT Device Security Specification 1.0. This groundbreaking initiative aims to establish a unified IoT cybersecurity standard and certification program, providing manufacturers a one-stop solution to certify their devices, enabling them to comply with multiple international regulations and standards more easily.
