At the start of 2023, our members continued extensive technical work and roll-outs across all working groups, demonstrating increased investments, products, and efforts around building the Internet of Things for consumers everywhere. This followed a successful launch of Matter and a strong industry showcase at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The Alliance and its members made an impact, with over 70 members showcasing Alliance technology products and solutions. The industry showed its interest in the success of Matter with accolades including the 2023 Mark of Excellence Winner for Emerging Home Technology Product of the Year and selected for The Verge’s overall “Best of Show,” along with landing on several “Best Of” lists with coverage by dozens of global media outlets. This demonstrates again we are just getting going on the journey of Matter, and many other strides forward with Zigbee, Product Security, Access Control, and the Data Model.
In February, the Board approved the creation of two new Working Groups dedicated to Data Privacy and Health and Wellness, symbolizing our commitment to furthering the work that shapes the future of the Internet of Things. As March came to a close, we ended the first quarter with an organizational membership milestone celebrating over 600 member companies who have joined the Alliance from around the globe!
As our collective efforts continue, I look forward to what’s to come and keeping pace with the momentum we have gathered in the first quarter of 2023.
“CES was a Matter love fest," said one show attendee on Twitter — and they were not wrong. The new smart home standard…was showcased by Samsung and LG during their keynotes & graced all the silicon manufacturers’ & smart home gadget makers’ booths, big and small.”
A Recipe for Data Privacy
Tobin Richardson, Alliance President & CEO, shares in this LinkedIn articlethe three main ingredients to achieving a successful recipe for consumer data sovereignty.
Certification
This year is on track as another record year for Alliance Certification. This quarter, certifications continued their strong growth following the launch of Matter in 2022. Zigbee certifications remain strong and, as expected, Matter certifications have a strong uptick after the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2022.
